I moved back to Richmond for a few years after graduating from Virginia Tech, but my husband and I moved to his hometown in Northern Virginia in the early seventies and I have been here ever since. I still feel like a Richmonder at heart though.
When I graduated from Tech in the seventies, like many women at that time, I was somewhat of a women’s libber so I was determined not to take a traditional “women’s job”. With the help of my roommate, Betty Hetzer’s mother, I got a job at United Virginia Bank as a “Bank Investment Analyst”. Fortunately though it caused me to realize that you cannot ignore your true calling. Teaching was calling my name very strongly so I went back to college, got a master’s degree in Education and found my passion! I taught for 35 years, with an 8 year sabbatical to enjoy my son’s early years. Now I’m a retired teacher who still misses the classroom, but enjoys seeing my former students around town, many of whom have children of their own now.
