From the webmaster:

I hardly knew you, and I feel that’s my loss. I guess I knew you better 45 years ago. You signed up early for the 45th reunion, which leads me to think you were really looking forward to reconnecting with a lot of classmates. I was looking forward to saying hi, and finding out more about you.

And honestly, I had forgotten you were voted “best looking” in the senior class (male division). I’ll bet almost nobody remembers who came in second, except possibly whoever came in third.

You joined our class website in 2009, not too long after we launched it, and you even took a minute to fill out a few details about your life – six years serving our country in the Air Force, a marriage, a divorce, one daughter, three grandchildren, and what appears to be a rewarding career in the medical business  -- 39 years working for and then consulting with the same company is impressive. And you posted some cool pictures on your page.

And that’s about all I can piece together without being intrusive. I wish I knew more. I’ll ask other classmates who kept up with you to log in to “In Memory” on our web page and leave some memories, stories, anything to help contribute to your legacy. And when memorial arrangements are completed, I’ll share those with the entire class.

Rest in peace, Robert B. (Bob) Caruthers. You would have been 63 next month. We’ll really miss you at the reunion. Our condolences to your sister, Karen, your daughter, Rebecca Blair Pickett, your three grandchildren, and your many friends.

Bob was a great friend and a positive hardworking person.  He set a personal example of this for me very early.  For some reason Bob was held back a year when we were in the fourth grade.   This would obviously cause him to graduate from high school a year later than the rest of the class.  However, Bob set a personal goal to graduate on time with his peer group, so he took summer classes to accelerate his graduation.  Sure enough when we finished in 1968 Bob crossed the stage with HIS Class of 1968.

Bob, the world is better place today because you were here.

This has been a total shock to me, especially when I reconnected with him through the class web site.  I could not wait to see him next month.  I remember when we ran track together.  He introduced me to tacos at his parents house.  About two years after graduation, we got together with Eric Oneil and shared an apartment together.  We all had a great time.  Bob was good friend with a grear personality.  He will always be missed.

Lots of memories - Bob was such a yakker, full of life. He used my role of "Big Sister" of Sigma Omega to talk about his lovelife questions (as if I knew anything), and lots of other stuff.  We lost touch after graduation, as I have with many, but I was glad to see his updates  thorough this site, and we did contact via the internet a time or two.

So sorry to see this announcement!

That is such sad news about Bob, I was looking forward to catching up at the reunion.  He was the first person I met when I started at Huguenot my junior year.  I will always remember how friendly and full of himself he was!  It is really too sad.
