WOOD, Kathleen Gail Kent, wife of Colonel Jerold A. Wood, passed away at 7:10 p.m. February 7, 2008 at University Community Hospital in Tampa, Florida, after complications with her treatment for cancer. Kathleen was born August 28, 1950 at Retreat Hospital, Richmond, Virginia, to Velma Carder and Coleman Woodson Kent. She was raised in Chesterfield County, Virginia, and was a 1968 graduate of Huguenot High School. She married Sergeant Jerold A. Wood at Huguenot Road Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, on September 5, 1970. Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Carder Kent; and her father, Coleman Woodson Kent, of Chesterfield County, Virginia. Kathleen is survived by her husband; son, Major Steven Wood, his wife, Shannon, and their son, Cameron, of Fort Polk, La.; son, Brian Wood of Newport News, Va.; son, Patrick Wood of the home in Valrico, Florida; sister Karen Kent; brother, Kenneth Kent and his wife, Sandra; and her stepmother, Ocie Kent, all of Richmond, Va. Kathleen was a civilian employee of the Department of Defense, where she worked for senior Air Force and Army officers at locations in the United States and Germany over a 30 year career. The last ten years of her career she was the executive secretary to The Army Assistant Judge Advocate General, and culminated it as legal technician to the Chief Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. She was forced to retire prematurely from service in 2002 for medical reasons which eventually caused her death. She and her husband relocated to the Tampa Bay area in 2006 to enjoy their retired years together. Kathleen enjoyed her family immensely, and was very proud of the accomplishments of her sons over their lives. She particularly enjoyed baking and cooking, and took great pride in her creations, which always added a special touch to office, school, and family functions. Kathleen was a caring, compassionate woman, whose thoughts were most often for the welfare of others; therefore, donations may be given in Kathleen's name to The Oak Tree Circle Program, Family House, 233 McKee Place, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213, or to the United Network For Organ Sharing at United Network for Organ Sharing Development Office c/o UNOS Foundation, P.O. Box 2484, Richmond, Va. 23218. Chapel services are scheduled for Friday, June 13, at the Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myer, Va., followed immediately with a graveside service in Arlington National Cemetery.
